Graduation Requirements

MPS aims for all students to graduate college and career ready. Graduation requirements support this goal in the following ways:

  • All students are engaged in coursework that allows them to pursue their passions and interests.
  • Students will experience academically rigorous, STEM-integrated curriculum in a multiculturally responsive learning environment.
  • Students who are struggling are able to recover important credits in core classes.
  • Heritage scholars will have experiences with professional affiliations through curated STEM community partnerships, with these experiences providing opportunities for problem solving and critical thinking beyond the state mandated curriculum, or Advanced Placement (AP) courses and other electives.
  • Graduates will have a strong foundation in project-based learning and the Heritage Design Process, as well as a strong foundation in the STEM focus themes of Heritage STEM Academy: Environmental Science, Foundations of Medicine, Robotics & Engineering, Cybersecurity & Computer Science.
  • Scholars will have college-credit bearing course opportunities and will have received guidance on how to find post-secondary opportunities, both in STEM fields and beyond.
  • Students have access to career and college programs through Career and Technical Education (CTE), Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO), and work-based learning opportunities.

Minneapolis Public Schools graduation requirements include successful completion of 21.5 credits in specific content areas. Students must also complete a Personal Learning Plan/Post-secondary portfolio by completing My Life Plan college and career readiness activities.
